While free weights and machines are beneficial in strength training, they often target muscles rather
than movement. Also, since machines move in a pre-determined pattern the ability to increase proprioception is lessened. Many fitness enthusiasts are disadvantaged on machines due to height and lever length. Bodyweight training eliminates these issues, as well as increases overall proprioception.

Functional training is typically defined as exercises that have a purpose or direct intention that relates to movements that a person will encounter in life. Humans move in a variety of ways and mainly with multi-joint actions, thus functional training focuses on multi-joint exercises that mimic daily movements while improving the person’s overall fitness components. In simple terms, functional training prepares people to move.
